Mayo TD says election is giving 'clear choice' to voters

MAYO TD Dara Calleary has stated next month's general election is giving a clear choice to the electorate.

The Ballina-based representative elaborated: "It is choice between more of the same from Fine Gael or a new government led by Fianna Fáil which will deliver faster progress on vital issues such as health, housing and the cost of living.

"This day last week Leo Varadkar went on RTE Radio and said he intended bring the Dáil back into session on Wednesday when in fact he was already implementing Fine Gael’s long-planned election strategy.

"Since then there have a been a few active days and the core issues facing the Irish people have become very clear.

"There are very real problems which need new answers not just more of the same.

"The large amount of policy work we have undertaken over recent years will culminate with the launch of our manifesto and a series of detailed launches of our policies on a range of priority issues.

"This is already the most negative re-election campaign run by any modern Irish government.

"Fine Gael’s record of failure on vital issues is catching up with it so it is lashing out.

"Every day they have made personal attacks and yesterday’s childish video attacking Fianna Fáil was so ridiculous that Fine Gael members appear to have forced their headquarters to take it down.

"It is well known that Leo Varadkar is obsessed with polls, so they are going to go even more negative from here on.

"We will not be distracted by them.We will focus on our message of concrete change and show the people that they don’t have to put up with this government any more.

"Fianna Fáil has been 100% consistent in recent years about polls –they don't matter, talking directly to people is what matters.

"There will be more polls in the next few days and we’ll say the same thing then no matter what they say."
