Students in Ballina present Sister ReAct

Hallelujah! Brace yourselves, sisters and brothers, as St. Mary’s Secondary School, Ballina, presents Sister ReAct – their very own take on the feel-good musical comedy smash.

This sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, sisterhood and music tells the hilarious story of the disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder.

Under protective custody, she is hidden in the one place she won’t be found – a convent! Disguised as a nun and under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Delores helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.

At the heart of this tale is an enduring love story – a perfect fit for this time of year!

Filled with powerful music, incredible dancing and a truly moving story, Sister ReAct will leave you breathless as 160 talented students come together to deliver a show that is simply not to be missed.

This in-house led production with a unique script and a truly wonderful set will live long in your memories. Running over three evenings next week, with the finale on Valentine’s night, this is a show brimming with drama, music, song and dance.

The show will be staged in St. Mary's on Wednesday (February 12), Thursday (February 13) and Friday (February 14) next week, starting at 8 p.m. nightly. Tickets can be purchased through the box office ticket line on (087) 3970772. Tickets cost €12 (adults) and €8 for students/OAPs). There will be a raffle each night too.

St. Mary’s is renowned for its history of memorable musicals, spanning more than 36 years. Sister ReAct, an original script, is brought to the stage by an amazing cast of transition year students, ably assisted by the second year chorus line and first and fifth year choirs.

This year's director and script-writer is Ms. Angela Donoghue, the musical director is Ms. Regina Deacy, and the choreographer is Ms. Annette Leonard. They are delighted to welcome Ms. Shauna Kearney on board, who is assisting with both acting and choreography.

The team also incorporates the talents of the art department, led by Ms. Renee Cronin, and the team of home economics teachers, spearheaded by Ms. Marie Clarke and Ms. Regina Hallahan, coordinating costumes.

With an extensive cast and crew behind the scenes, from make-up to curtain call, this year’s show comes hot on the heels of the 2019 extravaganza, ¡Mama Mia, Papa Mia!

Director Ms. Angela Donoghue said: “This is our 37th consecutive musical and Sister ReAct is special and unique because it focuses on a core group of women who each get time to develop and grow. Watching this show will leave you with ideas that will stick with you long after the curtains close. Our show explores the nature of true friendship and love.

“An enduring message to take home is that we cannot make it by ourselves - we must graciously accept others too, give them our friendship and, if necessary, put ourselves at risk for them.”

St. Mary's Secondary School principal, Mr. Robert O’Reilly, wished the cast and crew well in the upcoming shows, saying: “A production like this does not just happen overnight, and at St. Mary’s we are proud to write and produce an original show which is completely produced in-house from script to set design to costumes and promotions.

“The staff and students really work together to make this a fantastic opportunity – and a memorable cross-curricular learning curve – for our transition year students. We extend a warm invitation to all to come to our school and get a taste of a really fantastic musical production.”
