Impact of Storm Dennis being felt across Mayo

THE impact of Storm Dennis is being felt across Mayo this morning.

After 24 hours of heavy rains and floods, the effects of Storm Dennis will continue today.

It will be very windy everywhere with strong and very gusty southwest winds.

It will be stormy at times near coasts with gales and severe or damaging gusts. The strongest winds will occur this evening.

Sunshine and widespread heavy squally showers with a risk of hail and thunder.

Met. Èireann's is forecasting very windy or stormy conditions early tonight, especially in coastal areas, with strong to gale force and very gusty southwest winds.

Later in the night winds will ease somewhat, but it will continue fresh to strong and gusty.

Heavy showers or rain and hail will continue with a further risk of thunder. 

A Status Orange wind warning will be in place in Mayo today from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Met Èireann is forecasting southwest winds with mean speeds of 60 to 80 km/h with severe gusts of up to 120km/h, strongest on exposed hills and coasts, with a risk of coastal flooding.
