Aontú nominate Mayo representative to the Senate

THE Leader of Aontú Peadar Tóibín has announced that Paul Lawless has been officially nominated to contest the Seanad Elections on behalf of Aontú on the Cultural and Educational panel.

Speaking that the nomination in Leinster House An Teachta Tóibín stated: “Paul Lawless is a native of Knock, Co. Mayo. He is passionate about education. He is a Maths and Physical Education teacher at Ballyhaunis Community School.

“Paul holds a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A) and a B.Ed. Paul is keenly aware of the positive role sports plays in the lives of young people. He has represented Mayo, Connaught and Ireland at underage level, and achieved a professional contract with Derby County Football Club.

“Paul is invested in his local community and Mayo. He plays Gaelic football for Aghamore GAA Club and the Mayo junior team. He sees first-hand the damaged that is being done to counties such as Mayo by years under investment and rudderless spatial planning.

“He has campaigned for real infrastructural investment, regional development and spatial planning to tackle the lopsided development of Ireland as a city state”.

“Paul has been to the fore the beef protests that started throughout Ireland during the summer and has campaigned for reforms of the agricultural markets in order to make farming sustainable and profitable for rural families.

“Housing and gealthcare are key issues of Paul’s generation and if elected Paul will seek to use the Seanad as a platform to ensure that every family has access to these pivotal services”.

“I have absolutely no doubt that Paul’s energy, experience and perspective will add significantly to the next Seanad and I would encourage wholeheartedly people from all political persuasions and none to give him their support.

“This is Aontú’s first Seanad election. It’s our 6th election in just over 12 months of existence.

“In that time we have built a national political movement, gathered over 50,000 votes, have held our Dáil seat, got councillors elected north and south and put down serious foundations for Dáil and Stormont seats at the next election.

“With the calibre of our candidate Paul Lawless we now have a significant opportunity to compete for a seat in the Seanad.”
