Mayo TD lauds unity of purpose across county
AN invisible war has been waged against us all and we must harness all the weapons at our disposal to fight against it.
That's according to Mayo TD Rose Conway-Walsh.
In a statement, she elaborated: “We have the kindness, care and compassion that are deeply rooted in the Irish nature which will help us to prevail as we navigate through the Covid-19 crisis.
“It has been so heartening to see how our communities have come together in these trying times. Social distancing, being positive on social media and, of course, helping one another in every possible way will serve us well.
“Consideration and respect for those on the frontline, keeping our hospitals and health services open, home care workers, keeping essential shops and chemists open and keeping fuel suppliers and other vital services open means we must rigidly adhere to guidelines.
“We are very fortunate to have the best healthcare professionals in the world. Their powers have been enhanced by the return of over 20,000 doctors, nurses and health specialists to battle this crisis.
“Local organisations and businesses are adapting their services to assist those in need. An Garda Síochána are increasing on the ground local community efforts to ensure safety and to provide help to anyone in need.
“Local Link Mayo will be delivering vital supplies to our sick and elderly who cannot venture out. Mayo County Councilare assisting with the communication and coordination of newly formed community support and volunteer efforts. Midwest Radio will be broadcasting Masses.
“Post Offices and shops have adjusted their hours and procedures to ensure health and safety. In Mayo, I am proud to say, ordinary people are doing extraordinary things.
“I want to assure all who are facing difficulties that your voices are being heard! Understandably, people have a wide range of queries and concerns depending on their particular circumstances. These are being fed every day into a central system to be raised at Leaders’ and departmental meetings.
“I am conscious that particular challenges are arising in regard to farm and fishing. Incomes have been decimated. I am doing everything possible to have these addressed.
“All the political parties are working together to address the many serious issues as they arise and put solutions in place as quickly as possible.
“Protecting our people by providing adequate healthcare and taking actions to slow down the spread of the virus are the top priorities.
“New programmes are in development to engage all financial institutions, including insurance companies and the ECB, to have a vital and immediate role to play in easing financial pressures on individuals, families, and businesses.
“Above all, it is imperative that we all remain united in our purpose to protect and respect each other while we combat Covid-19, and make sure that nobody is left behind.”
