Telecommunications mast will not be erected at GAA grounds

PLANS for a telecommunications mast in the grounds of Breaffy GAA Club will not be going ahead.

The club executive issued a statement last night (Tuesday) to reassure neighbours, friends and club members that the potential erection of a telecommunications mast on club grounds will not proceed.

There are already three active masts in the village which, it has been confirmed, are no longer sufficient for the needs of the community.

Their decision, they said, had been driven by a funding opportunity for the club combined with the benefits that it would bring to the area both socially and economically.

They also advised that ahead of progressing with the application for planning permission they had taken the issue of community safety seriously and had done considerable research and engagement on this.

The statement continued: “Community is at the heart of the GAA and Breaffy GAA Club will not be sanctioning any development at the club that is not welcomed by the local community. Breaffy GAA are dedicated to developing the facilities not only for our current members and local community but also for future generations.”

The club has confirmation that the operator needs to site a mast within Breaffy 'so it is very likely that there will be a mast going up in the near future'.

While we as a club will miss out on the significant financial benefits and the opportunity that this would have afforded the investment in facilities, we do so at this time to avoid any conflict with either our neighbours or any members of the local community.”
