Mayo district nurses experiencing a 'total lack of PPE'

A MAYO GP has revealed that district nurses in his area are experiencing a "total lack of personal protective equipment" and some are "having to use the same mask over and over again because it's the only one they got."

Speaking on RTÉ's Today with Seán O'Rourke, Dr Jerry Cowley said nurses in Mulranny are "having to requisition masks from Castlebar” 20 miles away.

He said the challenge of securing PPE has improved for his practice.

He also said Mayo University Hospital is to be commended for changes made to its Emergency Department entrances, which are now "completely separated" for Covid-19 patients, and non Covid-19 patients.

The challenges, he said, will be in the next two to three weeks, when the peak of coronavirus cases is expected.
