Swinford community hosting virtual 'night out'
THE Swinford community are holding their first ever virtual night out tonight (Saturday).
Members of the community, local and around the world, are being asked to join together from behind closed doors in a 'gathering' that respects social distancing regulations.
The call went out midweek on the Swinford.ie Facebook page in an effort to 'lift spirits' by having a night out in people's own homes.
The idea was put forward by Peter Geraghty for people from the locality to cook dinner as usual but get dressed up - that includes the table, raise a toast – from a glass of vino to a cup of tea, put on some good music, and 'enjoy a night out (in)'.
Photos from people's home can be posted to swinford.ie: https://www.facebook.com/Swinford.ie/.
As the page explained during the week: “Let us be happy to be 'together' at a table smiling even for a short while, no matter where in the world you are.”
Swinford has certainly got its finger on the social media pulse with The White House streaming music onto the street every evening for an hour to help keep the spirits of passersby up.
The pub's 'beat on the street' is streamed live on Facebook from 6 p.m. and is attracting an audience from around the globe.
