Mayo church singer bringing joy to lives of nursing home residents

A professional Mayo church singer is bringing joy to the lives of nursing home residents throughout the county.

Turlough-based Brenda Grealis, whose work at weddings and funerals has temporarily come to a halt as a result of Covid-19 restrictions, decided to voluntarily bring her talents to residents of nursing homes and residential care facilities who may be feeling lonely and isolated at this time due to the absence of visitors.

The talented harpist and singer performs her programme while maintaining social distancing guidelines.

Brenda told The Connnaught Telegraph she is delighted with the reaction to date and feels a immense sense of fulfilment in brightening up the lives of people during challenging times.

She stated there is no charge, describing the kindness she has received from residents and staff alike as 'heart-warming'.

Nursing home wishing to contact her can do so at 087-6233083.

“I will do my best to meet all requests,” she added.

She has performances this week at AbbeyBreaffy Nursing Home and the Sacred Heart Hospital in Castlebar.

Great credit is due to her.

Due to Covid-19 travel restrictions, she can't meet all requests to appear in person but, in such cases, she will perform via Skype, WhatsApp and Zoom.
