Mayo parish mourns passing of widely respected personality

The death of Cartha Byrne, Portroyal, Partry, Claremorris, has evoked an immense sense of loss in the community.

Predeceased by his mother Peggy, he was beloved husband to Jojo, father to Cartha, Iarla and Nyrée, son to John, baby brother to Maureen Byrne-McKeown, Tom, John Enda, Dympna, Conal, Emer Morrin and Orla Carolan.

He is also sadly missed by his mother-in-law Micheline, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandnephews and grandnieces, relatives and friends.

Deepest sympathy is tendered to the bereaved family on their loss.

The family has extended thanks to the staff of the University Hospital Galway, particularly the staff of St. Dominic's Ward and the Corrib Ward who cared for him with such kindness in his final days, to Dr. Silvie Blazkova and her team who have given Cartha such wonderful care and so much valued time with his loving family.

In accordance with government directives and in the interest of public health, a strictly private Funeral Mass and cremation will take place.

A teacher by profession, the deceased served as principal at Scoil Nèifinn, Keenagh, Ballina.

Partry Athletic FC has issued a statement expressing great sadness at Cartha's passing.

The Byrne family has been closely associated with the club since its foundation in 2004.
