Mayo County Library operating 'Call and Collect' service for now

Mayo County Library has issued a statement outlining the services being provided at this time.

It stated: "Starting this week, you can contact your local library and request a bag of books for collection.

"Or if you are cocooning or housebound, the brilliant people at Local Link Mayo have offered to help us get books or DVDs to you.

"Please bear in mind that the national delivery system – which transports library books all around the country – is still suspended because of Covid-19 restrictions, so you will not be able to get books from other counties at this time.

CALL AND COLLECT

"This does exactly what it says on the tin – simply contact your local library (phone numbers at the end of this piece or you can phone 094 9047940 or email librarymayo@mayococo.ie) and tell them what you’d like.

"A selection of thrillers? A DVD boxset or two? Some cookery books? Perhaps a bag of picture books for the small boy or girl who’s getting bored with the current bedtime selection?

"Library staff will prepare a bag for you, issue them to your library account, and arrange a day and time for you to collect it in a safe way.

"Please follow safe social distancing if there are queues outside some of our larger branches.

"Some of our libraries will have temporarily adjusted opening hours over the next few weeks – please check our website for details www.mayolibrary.ie

LIBRARY LINK

"If you are still cocooning, or you are housebound, and you are not able to get to your nearest library to collect books and don’t have anyone who can collect on your behalf – the hardworking team at Local Link Mayo will help us bring the library to you. Just contact your local library branch, by phone or email, and tell them what you’d like.

"They will then arrange with Local Link to have the books, DVDs or CDs delivered to your house. If you’re not already a library member, or your card has expired, we can sort that out for you over the phone – it’s not a problem. It costs nothing to join the library, and there are no fines for late returns, so it really couldn’t be simpler!

ONLINE SERVICE

"All of our online services – ebooks, audiobooks, newspapers, magazines and online courses – are also still available, and you may have heard the news that an additional €200,000 has been invested in ebooks and audiobooks on our BorrowBox service – which will be welcome news to all of you who have really enjoyed this service during our closure.

"One library member told us last week she’d never walked so much as she has in lockdown – doing laps and loops in a bid to squeeze in another chapter or two of a particularly riveting audiobook!

"Phone any of our libraries for information or email us if you’d like details on how to access these services. All you need is a library card and PIN."
