Queen classic cover to raise funds for SVP in Mayo's county town
OVER 40 vocalists and musicians in Castlebar - including Mayo GAA stars Aidan O'Shea and James Durcan - have come together to perform the Queen classic, Bohemian Rhapsody, to raise funds for the Society of St. Vincent De Paul - and the video of their wonderful cover version is set to go viral this week.
Well known Irish comedian and Castlebar native Ger Staunton, his brothers Mike and Kieran Staunton, cousin Myles Cresham and bandmate Neil Kerwan, have been recording some songs during lockdown to keep themselves active and entertained.
Then, for this initiative, Ger figured why not spread it out to a few more Castlebar musicians who may be twiddling their thumbs, looking for something to do and make something huge.
And no better song than Bohemian Rapsody to test their limits.
They are dedicating it to, and trying to raise funds for, the Society of St. Vincent De Paul charity in Castlebar.
Said Ger: “Our late mother Agnes did so much work for St. Vincent De Paul during her time and with the majority of the performers in the video having played music in her garage throughout the years we thought this would be a nice way to say thanks. . .and sorry for all the noise!”
