Passing of Fr. Paddy Kilcoyne

THE death has occurred of Fr. Paddy Kilcoyne, retired Parish Priest of Kiltimagh.

Fr. Paddy passed today, surrounded by his loving family in his native Tubbercurry.

Yesterday marked the 53rd anniversary of his ordination. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 18, 1967.

Fr. Paddy’s half century plus years of service to the Church saw him become a part of life in many communities in the Diocese of Achonry.

His first appointment was as curate in Bohola and he also served in numerous other parishes over the years, including Kilkelly, Carracastle, Swinford, and Coolaney in Sligo, along with stints teaching.

In March 2017 he was chosen to be grand marshal at the Kiltimagh Saint Patrick's Day parade as he celebrated with the community the golden jubilee of his ordination.

A great Gaelic football enthusiast, he had a deep love of sport and he was deeply involved with Community Games in Mayo and was very proactive in the development of the games over the years.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
