Passing of former Mayo public servant is widely mourned

The death has occurred of John Loftus, (Seán Ó Lochnáin), Hawthorn Avenue, Golfcourse Road, Castlebar, and formerly of Lakelands, Manulla.

The deceased was a former Town Clerk of Westport, Cavan, Trim and Castlebar.

A loyal and dedicated public servant, he was a senior staff member for many years at Mayo County Council where he was held in very high regard by his colleagues.

He served as a member of Bord Na nÒg at Castlebar Mitchels GAA Club during the 1990s.

Predeceased by his sister Frances, he is deeply regretted by his loving wife Mary (nèe Gillespie, Knockmore), sons John (Bahrain), David (Dublin) and Darragh (Dublin), daughter Jennifer (Galway), brothers Michael, Willie, Brendan, Noel and Christopher, sisters Bridie, Tracey, Kathleen, Marie and Annette, grandchildren Méadhbh and Donnacha, son-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.

Removal from his residence takes place on Friday at 12.15 p.m. to the Church of The Holy Rosary, Castlebar (via Spencer Street) for Requiem Mass at 1 p.m. with burial afterwards to the New Cemetery, Castlebar.

Due to the HSE and government guidelines, the funeral at all stages will be private for family only.
