Unsafe pedestrian crossings around Castlebar to receive much-needed revamp

The issue of the unsatisfactory condition of a number of pedestrian crossings around Castlebar has been raised with Mayo County Council.

Councillor Ger Deere stated that some of the older crossings, most notably the ones on Newport Road (pictured) and Davitt's Terrace, pose a threat to the health and safety of the public.

This is due to the fact that the markings have worn off and the lighting needs to be upgraded.

In response, senior roads engineer Ann Sweeney said that works will be carried out shortly to address these issues.
