New 18-hole course opening at Castlebar Golf Club

THIS week will see the opening of the new 18- hole course at Castlebar Golf Club.

Founded in 1910, Castlebar golf course has evolved into a wonderful parklands course with overall design by Peter McEvoy in 1998 and recent amendments and additions by renowned course architect Jeff Hawes.

Members will get to experience the new holes in a free competition on Friday next, August 7.

The course has been reviewed and approved by the golfing authorities and the new indices which will be revealed on Friday are closely anticipated by members.

Over the past week Castlebar Golf Club hosted its annual open week. Few could have anticipated over the past number of months the numbers of golfers that played over the week. However, with the great work of the new golf council, under chairman Gerry Daly, the men’s committee headed by captain Tom Martyn and ladies committee headed by lady captain Mary McKeon, the week was a great success.
