The late Joe Deacy

Walk to remember Joe Deacy on third anniversary of his death

ON the third anniversary of his death, having received fatal injuries, a memorial walk for Joe Deacy will take place this Sunday in Swinford.

The 21-year-old died on August 12, 2017, while visiting Mayo from the UK.

The campaign to bring those responsible for Joe's death to justice is continuing and the family's local MP in St Albans has raised the case with UK foreign secretary Dominic Raab and the Irish ambassador to the UK.

This Sunday, at 12 noon, to mark the anniversary of his death, friends and family are holding a memorial walk, starting at the junction of the N5 Kinaffe L1901.

Joe's father Adrian, who resides in St Albans, Hertfordshire, spoke about his ongoing anguish over his son's death in an interview with The Times last Sunday.

MP Daisy Cooper, who has raised the case with Dominic Raab and the Irish ambassador told The Times: “Joe’s murder is a tragedy made all the worse by a painful three-year wait just to find out whether there is enough evidence to pursue a criminal case.

“Joe’s family deserve to know what happened to their son. Mr. Raab and the ambassador should work with the Irish authorities to conclude the review of the evidence, hold a public inquest and bring an end to the family’s wait.”
