Bishop-elect Paul Dempsey.

Bishop Dempsey to be ordained on Sunday

BISHOP-ELECT Paul Dempsey’s Episcopal Ordination will take place in the Cathedral of the Annunciation and Saint Nathy in Ballaghaderreen on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Archbishop Michael Neary of Tuam will be principal consecrator, and His Excellency Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo, Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland, and Bishop Denis Nulty of Kildare & Leighlin are the co-consecrators. Fr. Vincent Sherlock, Parish Priest of Kilmovee, will preach the homily.

The ceremony will be livestreamed by iCatholic on the homepage of the diocesan website: https://achonrydiocese.org/

Pope Francis announced in January the appointment of Fr. Dempsey as Bishop of Achonry. Due to the introduction in mid-March of public health restrictions as a result of Covid-19, the ordination Mass was postponed.

Planning for the Mass is in accordance with current government and NEPHET guidelines and the number of people in attendance is restricted.
