Councillors set to meet in new dome at GAA centre

THE new €3m air dome at the GAA Centre of Excellence in Bekan is set to host a meeting of Mayo County Council.

Full monthly meetings involving all 30 councillors have moved from Aras an Chondae due to the Covid pandemic to allow for social distancing, with a number of meetings held at GMIT and more recently at the Royal Theatre in Castlebar.

Now, on the suggestion of Councillor Christy Hyland, they could be on the move to east Mayo for a meeting in the new dome – a facility he described as being good for the county and the west.

Locally based Councillor John Cribben said he had inspected the facility and John Prenty, of the Connaught Council, was prepared to accommodate a meeting there.

The councillor said he would liaise with Mr. Prenty on the matter.
