Eighteen patients on trolleys at MUH

EIGHTEEN patients are on trolleys at Mayo University Hospital today awaiting beds.

The numbers are split evenly between the emergency department and wards, with nine in each section.

Today's Trolley Watch issued by the INMO shows there are 203 admitted patients waiting for beds across the country. Limerick and Cork university hospitals are worst affected.

A long-awaited temporary modular unit planned for Mayo University Hospital is progressing and is due to be on-site by early November, Deputy Alan Dillon confirmed this morning.
