Castlebar councillor makes Covid appeal to local students

A CASTLEBAR councillor has appealed to students in the town to observe social distancing and wear masks while on break as part of the fight against Covid-19.

At a local municipal district meeting today, Councillor Al McDonnell said he has received a number of representations from people around the town about some students not observing social distancing.

Noting how they are good kids, he wanted to see some encouragement and for it to be emphasised that they may be carriers of the virus.

The figures for Covid-19 can double or treble within days and he stressed that we need everyone's increased cooperation.

For that age group to think that Covid was not a matter for them and they should not be concerned about it was a 'mistake'.

“The figures in Mayo are good and hopefully they will remain that way,” he said.
