Ballina RFC men called up to Ireland Six Nations squad

BALLINA RFC'S Dave Heffernan and Caelan Doris were this morning named in Ireland's 35-man squad for the last two rounds of the Six Nations championship.

"We're all absolutely delighted for David and Caelan and all who helped them get this far. It's a huge and deserved honour for them and their families and we're all buzzing here this morning. Both Caelan and David were named in the squad for the first part of the Six Nations and we were all delighted, but today's announcement is even more special," said Ballina RFC club chairman Alan Rowe.

"In the past few months the whole sporting world has changed and everything seems to mean so much more. There have been some tough times lately, globally, nationally and here in the club and today's announcement is just wonderful. Good news is always welcome, but this is extra special.

"On behalf of Ballina RFC, I would like to congratulate David, Caelan, their families and all who have worked so hard to help them along the way. This is indeed, one of the best mornings we've ever had in Ballina RFC."

Ireland take on Italy at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday October 24, before facing France in Paris the following Saturday.

Ireland head coach Andy Farrell commented: “There has been a huge effort right across Irish Rugby to ensure that the professional game could return safely and that work is greatly appreciated by the national management. We have protocols in place to safeguard the welfare of the players and staff and are looking forward to completing the Six Nations Championships."
