New free stop smoking service for Galway, Mayo and Roscommon
A new local stop smoking service is available to help you to quit smoking.
A stop smoking advisor can offer you free expert support throughout your journey to become an ex-smoker, as well as advice on stop smoking medications that help relieve withdrawal symptoms.
This new service is provided by the HSE health promotion and improvement team, Community Healthcare West (Galway, Mayo and Roscommon).
Just like flu, coronavirus infection may be more severe in people who smoke. The good news is that quitting smoking helps build up your natural resistance to all types of infections, including coronavirus. It also helps you recover from Covid-19 and other infections should you get them.
Take the 28-day stop smoking challenge this winter and reduce your risk of coronavirus. If you stop smoking for 28 days, you are five times more likely to quit for good.
You don't have to do it alone either. Taking up the support of a HSE stop smoking advisor and using stop smoking medications will give you the best possible chance to quit for good.
Increase your chances of quitting by calling your local HSE stop smoking service covering Galway, Mayo and Roscommon on (091) 737262 or email quitsmoking.west@hse.ie. You can also visit Quit.ie for stop smoking tools and a free quit kit or to create a quit plan, and you can get peer-to-peer support on the QUIT Facebook page or on Twitter (@HSEQuitTeam).
