Róisín Curley

Master of Wine award for Mayo's Róisín

BALLYHAUNIS native Róisín Curley has been named a Master of Wine by the Institute of Masters of Wine.

Róisín was one of 16 wine makers from around the world who have just been added to the international organisation's list of master winemakers. She is the only Irish person to be enrolled as a member of the institute in the latest enrolment.

Based in nine different countries, including the UK, Canada, Ireland, Israel and Norway, these new additions bring the total number of master winemakers to 409, based in 30 different countries.

Daughter of Rosaleen and the late Hugh Curley, Róisín holds a BSc in pharmacy and an MSc in viticulture and oenology. In 2015 she established her micro-négociant business, Maison Róisín Curley, in Burgundy.

She produces wine in small quantities from carefully selected parcels from various appellations throughout Burgundy.

Róisín divides her time between Burgundy and her beloved Ballyhaunis, where she works alongside her brother Mark as a pharmacist in the family business on Main Street, a business established by their grandfather over 80 years ago.
