Work under way on €1.4m. Mayo secondary school project
Work is under way on a major extension to St. Joseph's Secondary School in Castlebar.
The girls school, founded in 1918, was allocated €2.4 million by Department of Education and Skills for the construction of seven mainstream classrooms, one home economics room, 12 WCs, additional circulation area with a new link corridor to the main building and a new boiler house at the Lawn in the town.
Works are expected to be completed by next summer - ready for the start of the new academic year in September 2021.
Marie MacCabe, principal, said that these classrooms are being built to the highest building specification and energy requirements and will greatly enhance the teaching and learning of the 600 students in St. Joseph’s Secondary School.
In addition, Ms. MacCabe stated building project of this size will support employment locally and help give a good economic boost to Castlebar and its hinterland.
