Breaffy speed limit delay raised

THE delay in addressing the speed limit at Breaffy is 'unacceptable'.

It's been four years since councillors expected action on reducing the speed limit through the village.

The issue was raised at yesterday's Castlebar Municipal District meeting where Councillor Blackie Gavin said Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) had promised Breaffy would be done straight after speed mitigation works in Bohola. That, he pointed out, was four years ago. “That is unacceptable.”

Councillor Donna Sheridan agreed the speed in Breaffy is 'horrific' and someone is going to be killed.

Councillor Michael Kilcoyne was anxious that elected members be kept informed on what is happening with regards addressing the issues in Breaffy. It had been agreed that councillors would have an input into a report. However, he understood a preliminary report issued from TII last month.

He wanted to know where it is at and when were they going to have their input into it.

It looked more like the road is going to have to be blocked again, he warned. “Nothing seems to be happening.”

Councillor Al McDonnell said there is ongoing discussion about Breaffy but they were not being informed about it. He wanted a full report on the agenda for the next meeting.

Head of the district Mr. Iarla Moran clarified that no report has issued. The expectation was that there will be a meeting with councillors in the coming weeks, to have their views before any report is issued.
