US election result 'has put Mayo on international map' - TD

The US election has put County Mayo and the town of Ballina on the international map - and the resulting publicity for the area is immeasurable.

That's according to Mayo TD Alan Dillon.

He stated: "I’m sure everyone is looking forward to a future announcement of a visit to Ireland which would reinforce the already close ties between the two nations.

“A State visit by President-elect Biden into the future would have a significant boost on local tourism and help reignite Ireland’s US tourism market, which has been severely impacted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“There has probably been no other president in US history that takes greater pride in their heritage than Joe Biden not since the Kennedys.

"The potential for Ireland is enormous, from improved relationships, US companies in Ireland, boost in US tourists, undocumented Irish, Brexit and co-operation on the international policy due to our seat on the UN Security Council."
