Popular Mayo charity shop has closed its doors after 11 years
The Care Shop, a charity store that has raised over €140,000 for two worthy causes over the past 11 years, has closed at Market Square in Castlebar.
The announcement was made on the Facebook page of the shop which first opened on November 6, 2009, to raise funds for people suffering from Alzheimer's and their carers by selling donated goods such as clothes, books, footwear, furniture, antiques and ornaments.
In more recent years funds raised by the shop went to helping people with multiple sclerosis.
The statement outlined: "Looking back over the years we have seen many, many thousands of people step over our threshold, many of those people became close friends, almost family.
"We had to say our final good bye's to some of those extremely kind-hearted people over the years.
"We have shared many laughs and even many tears over the years. When your door is open to the public you never know who or what is going to come through your door !!!
"In our 11 years we raised over €140,000 for two charities which helped thousands of people in many ways.
"It is only with the help of our fantastic customers and donors that we were able to help so many people over the years.
"Our loyal, trustworthy and kind volunteers worked tirelessly on the shop floor and behind the scenes.
"To each and everyone of you - customers, donors and volunteers - we say thank you for making The Care Shop the success it has become.
"Alas it's time for change and that means it's time to move on in life.
"We have made the decision The Care Shop will not reopen after lockdown, it's the end of an era, so to speak."
The statement was signed by Donal and James.
Their many customers and friends will join in extending them every success in the future.
