Double national success for Mayo at prestigious Pride of Place Awards

Two Mayo entries have won category awards at the annual Co-Operation Ireland Pride of Place Awards.

The village of Belcarra was victorious in the 300-1,000 population category while Ballina Lions Club was feted for its outstanding work.

Belcarra was placed ahead of joint-runners-up Clogh Community Council, Kilkenny, and Ballycawley Park Partnership, Sligo.

Other Mayo nominees were Westport Mens' Shed and Ballyhaunis 'Celebrate Diversity'.

Mayo TD Dara Calleary has extended his congratulations to the two winners.

Castlebar Councillor Ger Deere described Belcarra's success as 'a fantastic achievement for a wonderful community.'

Councillor Cyril Burke has also joined in congratulating Belcarra.

The competition promotes the best in community development and recognises the selfless efforts of people in making their local area a better place to live, work and socialise.

The event is organised by Co-operation Ireland and sponsored by IPB Insurance.

The awards were live-streamed to a big audience.
