Additional confirmed Covid cases at Mayo school ordered to reopen tomorrow
Claremorris Boys National School has provided an updated report on Covid cases at the facility.
It follows the decision of the Department of Education to order its reopening tomorrow after the primary school made a decision to close from last Friday to January 5, inclusive of Christmas holidays, due to an outbreak of the pandemic at the facility.
Updating the school's website yesterday, Mark Loftus, principal, outlined: "As of 4:15 p.m. on December 12, we now have been advised through public health of four new additional positive cases in fourth class.
"Three of these pupils attended school last on Thursday, December 10.
"Five negative results (were received) and I also got a negative result.
"All of fourth class are in isolation from December 11 until December 19, as directed by public health last Thursday afternoon.
"After isolation, and once we are well, we can return to school on December 20.
"Anyone who has not been in school since last Tuesday, December 8, and had no symptoms should also be negative.
"Everyone in fourth class is being or has been tested. There is unfortunately no guarantee that others, however, in school since last Wednesday might not be positive.
"I'm so sorry to hear of any cases in the school, but especially in fourth class.
"We and you (parents) did your best to try not to get this. The rates in the Claremorris area are very high sadly.
"My thoughts are with you all and your families especially those who have tested positive. As public health continue to update me, I'll update the school website.
"I truly wish they would have listened to me and supported us to close sooner like we suggested to them.
"Please try not to worry and do your best in isolation. Please keep well and get well!"
