5G is now live at three Mayo locations
eir has today announced that Ireland’s largest 5G network is now available to more than 53% of the population of Ireland - and 5G has now been switched on in Croke Park.
In Mayo, it is live in Castlebar, Westport and Knock Airport.
eir has rapidly expanded Ireland’s largest 5G network throughout 2020, now reaching 204 towns and cities across the country, from 748 sites, in all 26 counties in the Republic of Ireland.
When fans return, 5G will enable a new immersive experience throughout the stadium with 5G’s superior capacity, data speeds and low latency.
With 5G, eir customers can stream their favourite sports and shows in high definition without buffering, enjoy lag-free low-latency gaming and download their favourite shows in an instant.
Speaking in Croke Park today, Carolan Lennon, CEO of eir, said: “We are also delighted to turn on Croke Park’s 5G capabilities, ahead of the Dublin versus Mayo game this weekend.
"When fans return, they’ll be able to enjoy speeds up to 10 times faster than 4G and a reliable connection, bringing with it the ability to share the excitement of the big game instantly with friends and family at home.
"5G technology will bring the action on the pitch closer to fans, whether in the stadium or at home, allowing eir sport much more flexibility for broadcast capability from pitch side.”
Peter McKenna, Croke Park Stadium Director, said: “Thanks to eir, we now have an unrivalled 5G experience for delegates and patrons in Croke Park providing us with the agility and flexibility to run Croke Park’s business of meetings, hospitality, large scale concerts and events.”
This 5G network is complemented with 4G coverage across 99% of the population of Ireland.
A range of 5G handsets and plans are available with eir, including eir's Mobile Connect Plus plan, which includes No Limits Data, Unlimited Calls & Texts, 100 International Minutes and Texts and access to the eir Sport App.
No Limits Data means that customers will never have to worry about how they use their 5G data on Ireland's largest 5G network. Current 5G offers include the new iPhone 12, available from €49, with the Samsung S20 FE 5G, the OPPO Reno4 Z 5G and the Sony Xperia 5ii available from FREE. Visit eir.ie/5G for further details.
