Westport councillor's praise for 'an absolute hero'

An elected member of Mayo County Council has paid tribute to a Westport community activist and former town councillor.

In a Facebook post, Councillor Brendan Mulroy described Martin Keane as 'an absolute hero for his community work throughout the years'.

He continued: "He has a loyal group which also work away behind the scenes to help people on a daily basis.

"Martin Keane has played a huge part in most people's lives in our community.

"I have even seen him sell a lotto ticket to a referee after he had tossed the coin at a football match!

"Martin has helped out numerous clubs in a voluntary capacity for years.

"He has helped out young and old and being a friend to many including myself.

"Thank you Martin and keep up the fantastic work."
