Community anger over mess left at Mayo county town green area

An elected member of Mayo County Council has expressed his annoyance over people refusing to clean up after themselves when eating takeaway food outside.

Councillor Michael Kilcoyne cited the example of rubbish strewn in the green area at Thomas Street in recent days.

He stated: "I understand that Covid-19 has led more and more people eating their takeaway food outside due to restrictions.

"But is it unacceptable that some are leaving all of their rubbish after them and littering a public area.

"Residents of the Thomas Street are very annoyed by the situation and you can see why when you view the photographs.

"I am appealing to members of the public to please use the litter bins around the town or bring their rubbish home."
