Household waste dumped in Mayo graveyard bin
HOUSEHOLD waste was dumped in a bin at a cemetery in west Mayo over the Christmas period.
The discovery was made by a volunteer, on a check-up at Burrishoole Graveyard.
A social media post on the Burrishoole Graveyard Facebook page, said the find was very upsetting as the intention of the bins are to facilitate grave waste such as wreaths, etc.
They noted that people are dumping soil/gravel into the bins too, which hugely adds to the weight of the bin and so increases the price for removal.
The post continued: 'The committee rely on community contributions for the upkeep of the graveyard and as the bins are a cost, they will be monitored more closely and if this problem persists, the committee will have no choice but to have the bins removed.'
