Land transferred for alzheimer centre in Foxford
THE transfer of lands in Foxford for a new alzheimer's day care centre has been approved by Mayo County Council.
The site – 0.19 hectares – is located at Admiral Browne Road in the town.
Foxford & District Alzheimer Trust have been running a respite and day care centre for alzheimer's patients and their families in Foxford since 2011.
They currently operate from a leased building in the town centre.
A report to councillors highlighted how the facility has gone from strength to strength with a consequent increase in client numbers and pressure on existing facilities.
The ambition of the trust is to develop a purpose-built facility to cater for the demand for these services.
Disposal of lands was previously passed by the council in 2014.
However, delays arose in progressing the facility and the lands returned to council use and a local authority housing scheme was subsequently built on the site.
In 2019, consent was given by the council to allow a planning application to be made in the Trust's name on adjoining council-owned lands at Admiral Browne Road.
Funding for the centre has been secured, as advised by the Trust, the report stated.
Formal approval for the disposal of the site was required and recommended by the head of the municipal district.
