Gardaí issue warning after series of Mayo burglaries in past five days
Gardaí in Mayo have issued a warning to property owners after a series of burglaries in the county.
Garda Tony McCabe, Westport, confirmed that 11 break-ins to houses and businesses occurred over the past five days in a number of areas including Castlebar, Ballina, Lahardane and Claremorris.
He said items stolen included cash and jewellery.
Arrests have been made in respect of two of the incidents.
Garda McCabe said over the past year break-ins to private homes was down by 20% and had fallen by 35% in respect of business properties.
Consequently, the recent incidents have bucked the trends.
