The proposed location of the mast at Turlough Road, Castlebar.

Castlebar residents signal opposition to plans for mobile phone tower at Turlough Road

A planning application has been lodged to Mayo County Council for the construction of a 24-metre monopole mobile and broadband tower at Casey's Garage, Turlough Road, Annalecka, Castlebar.

The proposal, by Cignal Infrastructure Limited, includes a headframe carrying telecommunications equipment, together with associated equipment and cabinets enclosed within a 2.4m palisade fence compound.

The application was lodged with the council on December 18 last.

Now residents of Castlehill Park, The Brambles, Whitehorse Lane, Curradrish Road and general Turlough Road area have indicated they intend to challenge the erection of a mast in their neighbourhood.

They have informed local councillors that they acknowledge the necessity of such infrastructures for broadband.

But the location of this proposed development has caused anxiety in the area, they have pointed out.

The matter is expected to be raised at Wednesday's meeting of Castlebar Municipal District.
