East Mayo AC to host inaugural Colm Horkan memorial run

EAST Mayo Athletic Club have teamed up with Charlestown Sarsfields GAA to organise the first Colm Horkan memorial run.

The event takes place on February 14 and it will be a virtual run this year, with the hope of adding an annual race to the club calendars from next year.

You can book online and secure your medal and t-shirt at https://www.popupraces.ie/race/colm-horkan-memorial-run/

All funds raised will go to the development of the Colm Horkan Memorial Pitch and community walkways project in Charlestown.

The club explained how the idea for the run stemmed from members of the Irish 62nd Infantry group based in Syria who are taking to the roads of their base in Syria to raise funds in Colm's memory.

'We thank them for their generosity and efforts and look forward to running ‘virtually’ alongside them on the day,' the club said.

The event is a virtual 5k, 10k or half-marathon and it has evoked a massive response across clubs and communities as Colm’s family, friends, colleagues and the local community still come to terms with his tragic death last June.
