Fianna Fáil in west Mayo deeply saddened by loss of a great stalwart

A warm tribute have been paid to John Patrick McGinty, Shore Road, Saula, Achill Sound, whose death has taken place.

Predeceased by his daughter Martina, he will be sadly missed by his loving wife Mary Chrissie, daughter Lorraine (Dublin/Achill), son John Austin (Galway), brothers Marty and Michael (Achill), sisters Bridie and Mary-Ann (London), daughter-in law Elaine, son-in-law David, cherished grandchildren Darren, Shane and Jerry, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.

John's funeral cortége will leave his home tomorrow (Wednesday) morning at 10.30 a.m. for Requiem Mass at 11 a.m. in Church of Mary Immaculate, Achill Sound, followed by burial in Polranny Cemetery.

A tribute to him by Achill Fianna Fáil Comhairle Ceantair stated: "It was with profound sadness and shock that we learned of the sudden passing of our former chairperson John P. McGinty.

"The whole community has been rocked by the news of his death.

"A quiet man, full of discretion, integrity and dignity, John served with great distinction for many years as chairperson of the Achill Fianna Fáil Comhairle Ceantair.

"John was always a stalwart for the organisation and worked diligently for it throughout many decades. John was always available to help whenever the need arose.

"He will be sadly missed by the entire organisation and by so many people in the community.

"The entire Achill Fianna Fáil organisation extend its deepest Sympathy to his wife Mary Chrissie, his children Lorraine and John Austin, daughter-in-law Elaine, son-in-law David, his brothers and sisters, all his extended relations and to his wide circle of friends.

"We also remember his late daughter Mary Martina, who John always fondly remembered in many speeches throughout the years.

"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha."

Mayo Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary said his thoughts are with John's family and friends as well as his colleagues in Achill Fianna Fáil.

"The party is deeply grateful for his service," he added.
