Request for bird-proof bins at popular Mayo lake

THE birds are creating a litter nuisance at Lough Lannagh in Castlebar.

They're pulling rubbish out of the bins at the popular amenity, leaving the place 'destroyed'.

Councillor Ger Deere, who is also very active with the local Tidy Towns, has asked if bird-proof bins can be installed in the area.

His colleague Councillor Donna Sheridan, at a local area meeting, said the solar-powered electronic PEL bins would be excellent for Castlebar.

A number of the bins are currently being trialled in the town. The council will look at expanding that.
