Dáil tributes to Achill's Hugo Boyle, a champion of the Irish fishing sector

Tributes have been paid in Dáil Éireann to Hugo Boyle, Sraheens, Achill Sound, and formerly of Falcarragh, Co. Donegal, whose death took place on January 19.

The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Charlie McConalogue, said as CEO of the Irish South and East Fish Producers Organisation, Hugo was a tremendous champion for the fishing sector and for fishermen.

The minister stated: “He was a man of integrity, dignity and accomplishment and a tremendous family man and professional.

“On behalf of the department and everyone in the Dáil, I extend my sympathy to his family, his wife Ellen, his children and wider family, and to his many colleagues, who valued him dearly. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.”

Mayo TD Dara Calleary joined in paying tributes to the deceased.

He said: “He was very much part of the fine tradition between Achill and Donegal, particularly in our fishing community but also in all communities.

"I extend my sympathies to his wife and daughters and to his wider family.

"He was an exemplary servant of the Irish fishing industry all his life.”

The deceased is deeply regretted by his wife Ellen, daughters Alison, Denise, Elaine and Aisling, brother Francis, sons-in-law, brother-in-law Eugene, sister-in-law Maire, grandchildren, relatives and friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

Burial took place on Thursday last in Glenco Cemetery following Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul in the Church of Mary Immaculate, Achill Sound.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
