Fall in positive Covid numbers at Mayo University Hospital

The number of confirmed Covid cases in care at Mayo University Hospital (MUH) has dropped by seven to 65 in the past 24 hours, according to the latest report compiled by the HSE at 8 p.m. yesterday.

MUH's virus figures are now the 12th highest in the country, the list headed by University Hospital Waterford with 108.

Galway University Hospital has 63 positive cases in care, a fall of seven.

Two new cases was admitted to the Castlebar facility between 8 p.m. yesterday and 8 p.m. on January 28.

There are eight suspected cases at the centre, up by five, and four confirmed cases are in the facility's ICU, no change.

Nationally, the number of hospitalised confirmed cases now stands at 1,489, a decrease of 59.

The number of patients in intensive care units nationally has fallen by three to 210.

There are three vacant general beds at MUH, no change, and no vacant critical care beds, no change.

A total of 13 new confirmed cases were identified in Mayo by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre yesterday evening, bringing the total to 877 for the past two weeks.

It leaves the county with a 14-day incidence rate of 671 - the seventh highest in the country and above the national average of 574.7.
