Further drop in Covid statistics at Mayo University Hospital

The number of confirmed Covid cases in care at Mayo University Hospital (MUH) has decreased by six to 59 in the past 24 hours, according to the latest report compiled by the HSE at 8 p.m. yesterday.

MUH's virus figures are now the 13th highest in the country, the list headed by University Hospital Waterford with 108.

Two new cases was admitted to the Castlebar facility between 8 p.m. yesterday and 8 p.m. on January 29.

There are seven suspected cases at the centre, down by one, and three confirmed cases are in the facility's ICU, a fall one one.

Nationally, the number of hospitalised confirmed cases now stands at 1,503, an increase of 14.

The number of patients in intensive care units nationally has risen by two to 212.

There are four vacant general beds at MUH, up by one, and four vacant critical care beds, up by four.

A total of 31 new confirmed cases were identified in Mayo by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre yesterday evening, bringing the total to 809 for the past two weeks.

It leaves the county with a 14-day incidence rate of 619.8 - the sixth highest in the country and above the national average of 536.6.
