Moving memoir from writer with Mayo roots

A WRITER with Mayo roots has seen his debut book - a moving memoir - sell out its first print run in just 24 hours.

The good news is that The Will of Annie, by Anthony Giblin, is back in stock with Amazon and it will be available to buy in Ireland in paperback soon.

Anthony Giblin grew up on a council estate in Birmingham but both his parents hail from the west of Ireland – Rossport in Co. Mayo and Kilmore, Co. Roscommon.

He launched his first book, The Will of Annie, with Amazon self publishing on January 26 at 11 a.m. and by noon of the next day they were out of stock and it couldn't be purchased in England or Ireland.

Anthony, a construction worker, has been living in Celbridge, Co. Kildare, for the past 17 years with my wife and family and took up writing as a hobby.

Having completed a home study course with Kilroy’s College in 2013, 'it opened up a new world for me', he explained.

“I went about my first draft, and then did another course in Maynooth University where I was tutored by the gifted John Mac Kenna.”

Told with honesty and humour, The Will of Annie is a thoughtful, moving memoir from an engaging aspiring writer.

A heartfelt narrative of fear and faith. A man who is experiencing a trauma that is inextricably linked, not just in coincidence, but in his heart to a hurt he’s been carrying for thirty-one years.

Share his journey through his back story of his Irish widowed father left with six children to raise on a Birmingham council estate to amusing west of Ireland summer holidays. It’s one such jaunt as a young man that changes the course of his life forever when he becomes stranded on Irish shores, unwilling at first, 'til a tale of romance dovetails with the modern story.

Anthony is currently 40,000 words into a work of fiction and shelved this book for three years after more than 16 rejections - 'all very nice and encouraging, only not their genre right now'.

“It was this Christmas 2020 that my wife, the girl I fell for when stranded, produced my dusty manuscript into a box of hardcopies with a link to it on Amazon. Naturally, after my surprise and shock, I had to make a few tweaks to the cover on Amazon and it went out last Tuesday.”

The Will of Annie in paperback will be available soon with the Book Hub Publishing, Galway, and Anthony is hoping to sell it in local shops too.

Back in stock on Amazon, it is available for shipping to UK mailing addresses only from Amazon.co.uk, so Irish buyers are asked to check Amazon in France, Italy and Germany, who will deliver to Ireland. Paperback is still available on French Amazon (https://lnkd.in/es5ttRb).

It is also available to download on ebook on kindle, iPad, tablet and all phone devices.
