Mayo GAA referees back Colm Horkan Memorial Run

The team of Mayo GAA referees are backing the first Colm Horkan Memorial Run, organised by East Mayo Athletics Club in conjunction with Charlestown Sarsfields.

After they participated in the hugely successful fundraiser Roar for Ruairi back in May, the Mayo referees have decided to get behind Charlestown GAA Club and support the fundraising campaign.

Join them for a run on tomorrow week (Sunday, February 14) and receive a custom made medal in memory of Colm, who was fondly known as ‘The Bear’.

Monies raised from the events will go towards the development of the new all-weather floodlit pitch at Charlestown Sarsfields GAA Club, to be named the Colm Horkan Memorial Pitch, as well as community walkways – a fitting legacy for the great man and a facility for the community to enjoy for generations to come.

The Colm Horkan Memorial Run is a virtual run, walk, treadmill or cycle challenge, and can take place anywhere in the world at the participant's own pace.

The idea stemmed from members of the Irish Defence Forces 62nd Infantry group, who are taking to the roads at their base in Camp Faouar in Syria on the same date to raise funds in Colm's memory.
