South Mayo native aiming to join professional darting ranks

ONE of Mayo and Ireland's most successful darts players will today begin his quest to compete among the world's darting elite.

Martin Heneghan, from Roundfort, will attempt to win a coveted two-year tour card at the Professional Darts Corporation's (PDC) Qualifying School in Milton Keynes.

Martin has enjoyed much success in Irish darting circles. As well as playing and captaining Mayo and his country, he won his biggest singles title to date in claiming the WDF Europe Cup singles competition back in 2018 in Budapest.

He is one of over 650 players competing as they bid to win one of 29 PDC tour cards to play on the professional circuit over the next two years.

Martin is competing on Stage 1B, and will hope to qualify for the final stage, which will take place from this Sunday, February 14, to Wednesday, February 17, where the remaining 128 players who got through via automatic qualification or the Q-School Order of Merit (achieved through ranking points during the initial qualifying stages) will compete for the 29 tour cards on offer.
