Ballyheane community look forward to new walking track

THE community in Ballyheane is looking forward to the development of a new walking track.

A GoFundMe campaign, hosted by the local soccer club, in support of the project has received a tremendous response.

In a social media post, Ballyheane Community Council explained that it is hoped to commence work on the project in the coming months (subject to Covid guidelines) to provide a much needed amenity for the village and surrounding areas.

Founded in 1985, Ballyheane FC has embarked on numerous projects over the years, such as field development, car park, dressing rooms, and lighting, to enhance its facilities. This latest project will see a walkway put in place around the facility with incorporated lighting.

Ballyheane FC, Ballyheane Community Council and Ballyheane Community Sports Club have come together to collectively gather a significant amount of money to develop the walkway. It will be open to the public and users of local facilities - the creche, preschool and community hall, etc.

They acknowledged the great support received by the Castlebar Municipal District and local TD Alan Dillon TD, with financial support provided by councillors Cyril Burke, Donna Sheridan, Martin McLoughlin, Ger Deere, Michael Kilcoyne and Blackie Gavin proving crucial in getting the project started.

It is hoped with the continued support of Castlebar MD councillors that this project will be a success and a huge benefit to the community.

Ballyheane FC are raising fund by getting members, players and parents to complete a 10k walk, run or jog over the weekend of February 21.
