Green light for new adventure park at Westport House

A NEW adventure park on the grounds of Westport House has been given the thumbs up by planners.

Inishoo Management Limited are adding an exciting range of attractions, located within Westport Demesne in a disused quarry and part of the adjoining woodlands, in close proximity to the estate's farmyard complex.

Park attractions will include a net park, large swing, junior swing, zip line, climbing ropes, slide, climbing/abseiling tower, and activity garden.

The new adventure park will have an overall plan area of 1.7 hectares (roughly four acres), accessed via a visitors entrance building.

In response to a query by planners about traffic impact, the developers said it would not generate more than 10% additional traffic movements.

The proposal, it was explained, is to provide a new adventure park, which will replace the existing facilities.

A bat survey was also conducted as part of the application, which included measures to avoid any potential impact on local bat species.

They include a lighting plan to avoid direct illumination of recorded roosts, switching off times on specific dates, plus additional bat boxes to be put in place.
