Writing workshops for teenagers of Mayo

Fighting Words and Mayo County Library have teamed-up to bring Write Club, a writing forum for young writers to Mayo.

They are calling out to teens (13 to 18) who write or who wish to write to apply for membership of our online workshop programme.

Write Club is a community of like-minded young people between the ages of 13 and 18 years who want to create their own work.

It’s members write plays, short stories, poetry, novels, screenplays, flash fiction, graphic fiction — in short, anything is possible.

The club aims to meet online, once a month, on a Tuesday, at 5 p.m. for an hour, during which aspects of writing will be discussed, on-the-spot, writing exercised given by established writers and trained mentors, and short videos, with useful tips and advice, viewed.

Writing may also be submitted, between workshops, for comment.

Fighting Words is a creative writing movement initiated by Roddy Doyle and Seán Love, to help students of all ages to develop their writing skills and to explore their love of writing.

It has, for a number of years, provided writing workshops to schools, primary and secondary, from all over Mayo.

Mayo County Library, of course, need no introduction. It has a long-standing interest in promoting and developing links with young people throughout the county.
