Mayo-based professional HR service on hand for Connaught businesses

By Tom Gillespie

AFTER 29 years in New York, Loretta Kenny has returned to her native Castlebar to offer HR services to businesses large and small.

Loretta, from Knockthomas in the county town, said she was delighted to have been asked to profile the re-branding of her business, HR-On-Call.

She told me: “I am a Castlebar native and was raised in a large and loud family, so learning how to deal with people is a skill set that I acquired at a very young age.

“Building on that and with a thirst for adventure, I emigrated to New York in 1987 where I attended business school. I then entered the corporate world as a human resources manager for the next 20 years.

“I was so fortunate to have the most amazing experiences before it was time to come home to Ireland where I immediately identified a need for easy-to-assimilate HR services.

“My goal is to ensure that businesses in Connaught understand and comply with the relevant rules and regulations and avoid the costs and hassle of ending up in a solicitor’s office or in an employment tribunal.

“I set about creating a system where SMEs could easily access online HR services, downloadable documents and forms and have all their HR data stored and safeguarded in a centralised HR database they can access from anywhere, where they can see where their employees are working from on a given day, ensure employees are recording their breaks, monitor absence requests, leave entitlement and more.”

Loretta added: “I initiated a series of workshops last year to educate and empower management to navigate their own HR matters internally, particularly during Covid.

“HR-On-Call is always available to guide our graduates but the workshops are so comprehensive that there is rarely a need for further follow up.

“I’m finding a lot of my clients don’t do a good job of safeguarding their HR data and documents to comply with GDPR and sometimes employees who use the same pc may stumble upon employment contracts or salary information by mistake and this can cause problems.

“My new HR database solution will add a lot of value to SMEs, not only in terms of time-saving, but it will also help safeguard their businesses in several ways.”

When Loretta posed the question to SME owners, “Has Covid affected your business in the management of your employees?” the response was absolutely yes.

She added: “HR-On-Call has been helping business owners manage the complexities, rules, regulations and minefield around documentation, policies and fair procedures from hire to retire.

“We offer professional services that give you complete, compliant and cost-effective HR solutions, through a range of options and support packages that will suit your business needs and budget.

“Unless you employ or have access to a HR professional, then you are putting you and your business in a position which could affect your bottom line, even affect the continuation of your business.

“HR-On-Call not only creates, sets up and offers a centralised database to help manage your HR data, information, absences and documentation but also provides an array of services such as a HR library of documents, available when you need them.

“Using HR-On-Call, business owners can rest assured that their HR documentation, processes and procedures are in line with employment law and GDPR for employers and they will be given the option of accessing their HR data any time and from anywhere including by mobile phone or tablet.”

Loretta added: “Don’t wait until it is too late and you are in a legal situation, stressed out or having to write that very large check because you did not know the policy, did not have the right paperwork, or failed to follow the correct procedures.

“Employers - do you know all your legal requirements and obligations? And are you clear about employee entitlements? Laws are constantly changing and the most recent one is an employee’s legal entitlement to request to work from home. What does that mean for you? Find out how you can take steps now to properly manage such requests.

“Remember the buck stops at you and during these unprecedented times with Covid which could last for a very long time, you need to know how to protect your business and your employees.”

She stressed: “Ignorance is no excuse. Don’t get caught! HR-On-Call is here to help your business.”

HR-On-Call will be running zoom sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10.30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Whether a business is expanding or laying off, each session will cover a specific HR topic to educate business owners on how to best manage employees. Suggested topics can be emailed in advance and addressed in general during the session where possible.

For help with specific employee or HR matters, private sessions are available for €99 which includes a review of related documentation and recommended solution. To protect and safeguard your business whilst saving time, money and stress, email callhr@hroncall to enrol in a zoom session or to request a €99 consultation.
